detective ted williams, a defense attorney in his own right. we re learning everything every hour today, ted. the most scary has to be that he was looking at a follow up attack in madison, wisconsin. we don t know for sure why hi cancelled that. but he was essentially there. yeah, that s very scary. because after he left the scene there in highland park or illinois, he headed to his mom s house, he picked up his mom s car and he headed to madison, wisconsin. from what we ve been told, he is talking to the authorities, neil. he s informed the authorities that he saw a crowd there in madison, wisconsin and he thought very strongly about shooting up that crowd. he thought about it. he then came back, of course, to illinois and quite naturally i m happy and elated to say that he was captured there in illinois. neil: ted, i want to go over the red flag laws in place in illinois that he was violating or at least authorities ignored or didn t have any idea going back to 2019. of

the struggles of war growing more desperate as russian bombs get closer. cnn talks with ukrainian families in the east who say they can t leave despite explosions all around them. welcome to the lead i m erika hill in for jake tapper. we are standing by for an update on the shooting in highland park, illinois. we ve learned a seventh person has now died as a result of that shooting. the suspect police say planned the attack for several weeks, sprayed the parade crowd with bullets from a rooftop, the gunman used a fire escape ladder to access the rooftop and in another disturbing detail, he dressed in women s clothing to help him blend in with the crowd as he escaped running for cover and safety. cnn has a photo showing law enforcement taking him into custody. his hands cuffed behind his back, face down on the ground. the question yet to be answered why this fourth of july parade, why target so many innocent lives. we are learning more about those lives, two of the seven v
gunman. cnn s senior investigative correspondent, drew griffin, has details. the sheriff s office reveals two incident involving the suspect. the first in april of 2019. a suicide attempt handled by mental health professionals. the secondo cured in september of 2019. a family member reported he was going to kill efveryone and he had a collection of knives. the police responded to his residence. they removed 16 knives, a dagger and sword from his home. at that time, there was no probably cause to arrest. there were no complaints that were signed by any of the victims. police say the suspected shooter preplanned his attack and get away for several weeks leaving his high powered rifle behind, dressing as a woman, and slipping away with the retreating crowds. it was that rifle purchased legally and traced back to him that helped police identify the suspect, track down his mother s car and make this arrest. at this point, we have not developed a motive from him. while po
preplanned this attack for several weeks. people need to place to go when they re going to do harm. neil: people making sense of that awful attack on innocence. we re learning a little more about the alleged shooter. let s get the latest from mike tobin ahead of authorities giving us an update as well in highland park. mike? neil, the very sad detail today is that another of the shooting victims as you mentioned succumbed to the victories. the death total here from the highland park parade shooting is now at 7. we re getting more details about the suspected gunman. bobby eugene crimo iii, 21 years old. he lived in his father s basement. police say he dressed like a woman on the day of attack to avoid detection. the weapon used is a rifle similar to an ar-15 purchased legally in illinois. crimo possessed another rifle and additional guns. he accessed the roof from which he fired 70 rounds down on spectators. he dropped his rife and blended in with the crowd. following
