this moment in time. so i joined a bipartisan letter to the president, i led it yesterday, asking him to give this tps treatment for these ukrainians who are here. your day job, the other part of your day job, is as the chair of the senate judiciary committee. which means you re in charge of the hearings for supreme court nominee ketanji brown jackson. i heard lindsey graham yesterday say he s not sure he s going to meet with her, which was odd to me, because he voted to confirm her to the circuit court of appeals. how do you explain that change? you re asking me to explain lindsey graham? he s my friend and we have been allies on a lot of issues, i hope we will continue to be. i will appeal to him to listen to her presentation, judge jackson s presentation, and to keep an open mind on the subject. he s going to make his own decision. i saw april 9th as the date where you thought that you might be able to complete this. what is the timeline here? well, we haven t established
and i thought, yeah, it works for me. prevagen. healthier brain. better life. president biden has said he will name his supreme court nominee before march 1st. that means the announcement could come at any moment. democrats are aiming for a confirmation by april 9th. joining us yamiche alcindor, and david jolly, congressman from florida. senator ted cruz, the key committee that will have to clear the nominee is calling the president s promise discrimination. i would like to get your response to that. throughout history, presidents have made it clear when they want to make sure there s diversity on the bench and diversity on the bench meaning it will reflect the american people. there were presidents who when they were replacing someone like
the congress wants to do it quickly. the white house, i think, wouldn t mind taking a little more time. so far, it s been faster than normal. they are pointing toward confirmation hearings beginning april 9th, and i think the hope is by the end of april. that would be pretty fast, but it s doable, especially because i don t think there will be a serious opposition to her confirmation. there will be ferocious words and, you know, talks about liberal activism and the like, but not really threatening to her. so i think it s very plausible she will be confirmed by the middle or end of april. so, give me your sense on what advice you would give judge jackson as she s getting ready to face this divided senate, based on the fact that you have helped prepare numerous nominees in various hearings. what would you tell her? well, look, there are two kinds of nominees, controversial and uncontroversial. i wouldn t call her
trial, i don t believe i had a right to. i didn t even have a right to be in the same room with you. i am so sorry that i hurt you so badly. joining me now is my panel, jess morales rocketto, director of moon shot strategies, katie phang, host of a new shot show right here on msnbc. we ll talk about that later in the hour, katie. so excited, it starts on april 9th and christina greer, professor at fordham university and author of black ethics, katie, i want to kick this off with you. from a legal perspective, do you think the sentencing was fair? it s a tough question, tiffany, because the law provided the judge with a discretion to be able to make that downward departure. i will say this, you know, the criminal justice system, it has many components to it but the two primary ones is rehabilitation and the
louisiana in the hallway and he gave her a hug saying telling her congratulations for the nomination. but we also got some news about the schedule. senator durbin the head of the judiciary committee said the hearings for nomination start in the judiciary committee on march 21st. they will last four days and he still on track he says to have her confirmed by the april recess around april 9th which is a very quick process for president biden s first nomination for the supreme court. live on capitol hill with that new rorting, new developments on the timeline and the process, thank you. thank you for watching us on mus nbc reports. i ll see you at nbc news reports in an hour. deadline: white house starts right now.
