stick make deals in the u.s. but not foreign countries and donate any profits from foreign governments to his hotels to the u.s. treasury. what do you make of that? wasn t a press conference but a pr event and not a divestment plan, merely passing management of the business to his sons and other people appointed by them and leaves all the problems intact. made a token effort for the foreign government payments, saying some of the payments from the hotels given over to the u.s. government but lot of other foreign government sorsz of payments and loans from foreign government owned banks. no plan for those.
everybody, to try to keep our eye and hopefully push him toward the real business of the country. yeah. keep our eye on the ball as they say which is not necessarily one they want to push but the real business of the country. i like the way you put that. let s talk about this press conference now. richard painter, this is for you because we finally learned about donald trump s plan for his business empire. let s run through it. he says he s going to resign leadership of the trump organization. he s not divesting. instead transferring control to don junior and eric. he is still going to receive reports on his company s profitability, his company will still make deals in the u.s. but won t make deals in foreign countries and trump will donate any profits from foreign government from his hotels to the u.s. treasury. what do you make of that? well, that wasn t a press conference. that was a pr event. and that was not ady vesment plan. that was merely passing
he said derg dal felt luke he knew more than his superiors and more qualified than his fellow soldiers. he felt things were going terribly wrong at growth outpost concerned for fellow soldiers. he felt he needed to run away 19 miles to get back to the main base to warn people, to warn his superiors there. what is your reaction to that? first i find that testimony from bergdahl a bit hard to believe. anyone who spent a day in afghanistan knows that you are not going to walk 19 miles to anywhere through some of the most god awful mountainous terrain. he further testified that bergdahl wanted to purposely create a search for him so that it created some kind of pr event that would then get the attention of the generals out in afghanistan at the time. as you mentioned, i took command the day that bergdahl walked off his base. i can tell you without a doubt that men and women were harmed, that they were killed and injured, looking for sergeant bergdahl.
absolutely. and to set it up for the aba to ask you a question that you already know the answer toto give out to make this big announcement. and not to have miller, director, come out and say it. that s why i think the whole thing was really kind of a charade. does it make you more suspicious the way they rolled it out, or just sort of clemcy handling of a pr event? i think it makes me more suspicious. one thing t clumsily handle a press conference. but at a press conference, knowingith going to get picked up, doing it that way. you had to plot this out, greta. ith not something where you clumsily did go. doan you think the month after you found out, wouldn t that be the way to do the honorable thing? exactly.
this plan done, month specific urgings to congress? well, the one thing i would say is that this has been so fluid. not only the negotiations on capitol hill, but how the white house how the president has been responding. the president planning to speak in broad strokes. could that change within the final few minutes before he gets to that podium? it certainly could. these negotiations are so fluid. at this point in time i am told that this is really going to be more of a pr event. president obama standing there with middle class americans standing behind him to make the case that actual people will be impacted if congress fails to act in this instance. now, one important theme throughout these entire negotiation that is we ve talked about, chris, is that if a deal emerges too soon, it could essentially be spoiled. it could be derailed by a lot of people coming out against it. that s, in part, why congress waits until the 11th hour to get these big things done.
