Prices of chicken and eggs to be capped until June 5

PUTRAJAYA: The prices of chickens and eggs will be capped for five months as proactive measures are taken to ensure prices of these essential goods remain affordable to consumers.

KUALA LANGAT (Bernama): About 60% of the approved permit (AP) holders involved in meat importing activities are bumiputra companies, said Agriculture and Food Industries Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee. He said Ramly Food Processing Sdn Bhd and Darabif Meat Company are among the bumiputra AP holders, adding that these companies are capable of importing large quantities of meat. In terms of the quantity of (imported meat), it depends on the ability of the company. These two companies are able to import meat in large quantities and are able to compete with non-bumiputra companies, ” he told reporters after a working visit to the area farmers’ organisation (PPK) Kuala Langat here on Tuesday (Jan 26).

Ministry will cancel permits of AP holders in cahoots with meat cartels

PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industries (MAFI) will revoke the Approved Permit (AP) of any entity or person found to be in cahoots with cartels which imported uncertified meat, said its minister Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee ( pix, 2nd from left). “If there are AP holders involved, we would not hesitate to revoke their APs,“ he said when asked to comment on the action against AP holders involved in such scandals. He was met after launching the MAFI Anti-Corruption Kalam (Words) (KARMA 2021-2025) at the ministry here today. He said the authorities were investigating a cartel for allegedly importing uncertified meat and passing it off as halal.

We are investigating under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code for causing public fear and alarm, he said in a statement on Tuesday (Dec 29). Initial investigations revealed that the illegal activity involved a wide network along with local and foreign syndicates based on the total seizures and its value, he added. Our investigation will include the acquisition, storage, processing, smuggling as well as parties that have been manipulated or in cahoots with the syndicates in bringing the frozen meat through with Approved Permit (AP).
