Appleton School Board to consider renaming Lincoln Elementary

View Comments APPLETON - The Appleton School Board on Monday decided to officially consider the request to rename Lincoln Elementary in honor of longtime principal and community leader Ron Dunlap. The 5-2 vote means the school board will develop a process for notifying the community and gathering input and feedback on the request  the next step of a new policy the board approved last month to address decisions about renaming district facilities and buildings. Board members Gary Jahnke and Deb Truyman voted against giving further consideration to the proposal to replace Lincoln Elementary s name with Ronald C. Dunlap Elementary School, Home of the Lions. Both argued that although Dunlap is deserving of recognition, they believed there was compelling reason to retain the school s current name, which honors President Abraham Lincoln.
