APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) â People in Appleton are remembering Firefighter Mitch Lundgaard, two years after he died in the line of duty.
Saturday, a private wreath laying ceremony was held at the cemetery where heâs laid to rest. Firefighters and family then took shifts watching over his gravesite.
Lungaard was a driver-engineer for the Appleton Fire Department.
He was killed after a man who had just been revived from a drug-over dose opened fire on officials who just saved his life.
âSo as a community itâs important that we mark this occasion, that we donât lose track of it,â said Appleton Mayor Jake Woodford. âBecause again, our first responders take risks everyday. They put themselves on the line for all of us in our community. So, itâs important we pause today and recognize it.â
