This week the U.S. Patent Office (USPTO) published a patent application from Apple regarding a Separable Controlling device for games while also granting them a patent for another style of gaming and possible Apple TV box controller. Both patents pointed to the controllers being used with an HMD (Apple Vision Pro). Then on Friday, USPTO published new trademark filings from Apple that extends applications for Apple Vision Pro. One relates to gaming and the other relates to leather cases.
Apple s process of bringing a new product to market takes time, a lot of time. In a report that covered Apple settling an AirPods case with Plaintiff Kim Seung Jin Kim and Pinn Inc. yesterday, Apple Legal argued "that the company s work on AirPods goes back a decade before the product launched." Another example is Apple filing for a stretchable display patent in 2016 and LG Display just announced they ve developed a high-end stretchable display.
In March 2021, Patently Apple posted an in-depth report titled "Apple Sues Former Employee for Passing Secret Apple Information to a Media Correspondent for Gain and more." Despite over a decade of employment at Apple, Simon Lancaster abused his position and trust within the company to systematically disseminate Apple’s sensitive trade secret information in an effort to obtain personal benefits. Although reportedly being a "Design Architect" at Apple, Lancaster s profile on LinkedIn is void of any mention of his employment at Apple. Whether this was forced on Lancaster by Apple is unknown at this time.
