News - First-year student recognized with national service award

Feb 25, 2021 On Monday, Feb. 22 first-year student Ashley Williams was awarded the Presidential Volunteer Service Award in the Alumni House. Some fellow athletes were able to join in person to support Ashley, while her family excitedly attended virtually through a special link provided them by the Office of Special Events at the College. The Presidential Volunteer Service Award is a nationwide effort to honor volunteers with recognition of their service by the President of the United States. The award was founded in 2003 by the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation.  In order to qualify for the silver award, Ashley completed between 175-249 hours of service. She was nominated by a qualifying organization and ultimately chosen to receive the coveted recognition – Silver Award.
