LOS ANGELES (CNS) A report commissioned by the City Council found that the Los Angeles Police Department mishandled various aspects of last spring s mass demonstrations sparked by the May 25 killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis.
The 101-page report found that many officers were not properly trained in crowd control tactics, illegally detained people who committed infractions, used less lethal weapons on peaceful protesters, and created chaos through conflicting orders.

Oswego residents will see Officer Chelsea Giovo in their neighborhoods more often.
“It’s important to break down barriers and establish trust and transparency within the community,” said Giovo.
Community policing is just one way they’ll do that. The city’s common council recently approved the department’s police reform and reinvention proposal.
This comes after Governor Andrew Cuomo’s executive order to adopt a plan by April 1, or lose state funding.
“A lot of the issues we saw nationwide certainly haven’t been documented and I don’t believe happened here,” said Oswego Mayor Billy Barlow. “But that being said, there’s always room to improve, and we want to prevent those situations from ever happening here.”

VERNON, Calif. (CNS) Animal rights activists displayed 7,000 paper hearts Monday in front of the Farmer John slaughterhouse in Vernon to honor the 7,000 pigs they estimate are killed at the facility each day.
The demonstration came amid a growing COVID-19 outbreak at the facility, where 882 workers have been infected with the coronavirus. That s more than double the number of cases reported just six weeks ago, and by far the largest outbreak at a nonresidential setting in Los Angeles County.
