At a press conference this morning on the west side of the state Capitol, Ashley Livingston, a recovering opioid addict from Glens Falls, and an advocate for drug treatment and prevention, put the legislature on notice regarding opioid settlement money.
âSo help me, if they try to take these funds and put them into the general fund, which is a slush fund, I donât even know what I will do, but I will be back here and I will probably lose it. I canât probably say what I would do on TV, so Iâm not going to. But letâs just say Iâm going to be here every day,â Livingston warned.

One of the biggest questions surrounding the budget this year is whether it will include $4.3 billion for the state’s neediest schools: that’s $1.4 billion in Foundation Aid each year for the next three years.
Foundation Aid is the primary funding mechanism for school districts.
Advocates have been fighting for this funding since 2006, when, in the wake of the Campaign for Fiscal Equity court lawsuit, former Governor Eliot Spitzer promised to provide $8.5 billion a year in additional education aid for New York City and other needy school districts. In 1913, after only 10 months in office, William Sulzer, otherwise known as “Plain Bill,” was impeached.
Out of New York’s 56 governors, Sulzer is the only one, so far, that holds this distinction.
However, the reasons Sulzer was removed from office are much different than the scandals Governor Andrew Cuomo is facing.
The State Assembly Judiciary Committee has now launched an impeachment investigation as Cuomo is battling calls for his resignation for a growing number of sexual harassment allegations and his administration’s handling of nursing home data.
