The Rivers State Police Command had intervened in the crisis between youths of the Rumuolumeni community, a company and the Nigerian Navy Ship Pathfinder, and had secured the release of some leaders of the community being detained by the naval authorities.
The spokesperson for the command, Nnamdi Omoni, who made the disclosure to our correspondent through a text message, said police also restored peace in the area.
“Yes, we have been able to bring about peace,” Omoni’s text read.
He said the police ensured that the blocked roads were reopened, while the detained community leaders were released following a dialogue between stakeholders, the Navy and government officials at the palace of the community’s paramount ruler.
The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company said five power towers were damaged by suspected vandals at the Elelenwo transmission substation in Obio/Apkor Local Government Area, plunging several communities in Rivers State into darkness.

Acting Head, Corporate Communications, PHED, Ngozi Koroye, who disclosed this to newsmen in Port Harcourt, said the installation belongs to the Transmission Company of Nigeria.
Koroye explained that the action of the hoodlums caused extensive damage to the facility, noting that the company felt the pains of residents in the affected areas who have been in darkness for over one month.
