that? he was here on a visa, what s called a diversity visa which is our country s way of extending a hand out to other countries of the world. this was taken advantage of in this case it sounds like. he moved to florida in 2010. he has been in the country for seven years from uzbekistan. he rented that truck from a home depot in passaic right down the street and drove into the city and flipped off the holland tunnel and moved onto the west side highway onto the bike path and committed that carnage. he was shot in the leg by a hero police officer who stopped the rampage and now out of surgery and being questioned by the f.b.i. and local authorities nypd as well. sandra: will be transported to jail soon. rob schmidt, thank you. bill: there are more details emerging now on the background of the killer. sayfullo saipov is his name. he is 29. what the investigators say they
we heard he was interviewed in 2015 after his name popped up in connection with a handful of people. one important thing we saw happen we saw federal investigate force walk out of the apartment complex with a garbage bag supposedly with contents from his home. bill: i wonder where his wife and two kids are and i wonder that home depot has to be five miles from you. that scene is still being investigated. what have you learned over there? well, we ve had our camera crews looking around. it appears the vehicle investigators believe he drove over there has been removed from the parking lot. as we ve been reporting sayfullo saipov was not a u.s. citizen and has been here since 2010. it is important to note in
sayfullo saipov had been under nypd surveillance. rob schmidt is live outside that mosque in paterson, new jersey. the area of the investigation. we re in paterson, new jersey. the mosque right behind me the omar mosque has been on the radar of the nypd since 2005. all that mosque surveillance that began happening after 9/11. the suspect sayfullo saipov lived in the apartment building that literally butts right up against this mosque and we re trying to get a timeline now on how long he has been here because one man that goes to the mosque says nobody at the mosque recognized the picture and says that they don t think he has been here very long. that begs the question did he come into the new york area, into the northeast just to commit this horrible act or has he been here for longer than
