With Covid-19 cases on the rise in West Bengal, Baranagar Municipality in North 24 Parganas has ordered all markets which open twice a day, to operate only once from 6 am to 2 pm.
Baranagar Municipality is the first local body to impose such restrictions to counter the unnecessary movement of people in North 24 Parganas.
Aparna Moulik, outgoing chairman of the municipality, said that a mutual decision was taken in this regard after receiving a nod from the trader s body in her area.
