There are a couple of easy things to do that make coming back for the fall veggies a lot more enjoyable. Instead of letting my beds go fallow with weeds every summer, I now plant cover crops to prevent erosion, feed my soil, and even provide some food for pollinators.
Some great summer cover crop options are cowpeas (black eyed peas), buckwheat, daikon radish, hairy vetch, sword bean, millet, sorghum, sesame, sunflower, and wheat.
