Interative Raises $20M in Series A Funding

Iterative, a San Francisco, CA-based MLOps company dedicated to streamlining the workflow of data scientists and Machine Learning (ML) engineers, raised $20m in Series A funding round. The round was led by 468 Capital and Florian Leibert, ex-founder of Mesosphere, an infrastructure start-up based on the open-source software Apache Mesos, with participation from prior investors True Ventures and Afore Capital, bringing total funding to more than $25m. The company will use the funding for development and growth. Led by Dmitry Petrov, CEO and founder, Iterative is the company behind the development of Data Version Control (DVC) and Continuous Machine Learning (CML), open-source tools to streamline the workflow of data scientists. Hawking technology news from the company’s Data + AI Summit, CEO Ali Ghodsi spoke to The Register about the new technologies. Ghodsi said the firm s efforts to combine the order and SQL queries familiar to data warehousing with the schema-less architecture of data lakes would be pushed more aggressively against established vendors in the data management, analytics and data warehousing.

He started the Apache Spark project during his PhD at UC Berkeley in 2009, and has worked broadly in datacenter systems, co-starting the Apache Mesos project and contributing as a committer on Apache Hadoop. Today, Zaharia tech-leads the MLflow development effort at Databricks in addition to other aspects of the platform. Zaharia’s research work was recognised through the 2014 ACM Doctoral Dissertation Award for the best PhD dissertation in computer science, an NSF CAREER Award, and the US Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE).
