The Mescal Fire has burned more than 70,066 acres as of Wednesday morning, and firefighters are increasing containment of the blaze, according to InciWeb, a wildfire tracking website operated by the U.S. Forest Service.
The fire has grown by 17,266 acres since Monday, according to the Mescal Fire information page. It burned southeast of the San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation near Globe and was 23% contained as of Wednesday morning.
Fire officials noted, overall, activity on the Mescal Fire continues to decline, but crews and engines are ready to respond to any new fires or spot fires caused by weather, according to a fire update for Wednesday.
