WELLSVILLE Council members agreed Tuesday to contract with a Youngstown general contractor for improvements to its wastewater treatment plant.
During the brief meeting, council accepted Dallis Dawson and Associates’ recommendation that they accept the bid from low bidder A.P. O’Horo Co., for phase I improvements to the plant, which are estimated to cost $648,450.
Council also paid $37,814 in bills during May’s meeting, including $21,046 for police vests from Red Diamond and $10,796 to repair and replace the electric at the Wellsville Marina.
No ribbon cutting date has been set for the 18th Street playground, where the recently redone basketball court will be dedicated to Bevo Francis.
YOUNGSTOWN The “bridge to nowhere” is about to go bye-bye.
The city’s board of control Thursday approved a $582,000 contract with Rudzik Excavating of Struthers to demolish the Crescent Street Bridge, and a separate agreement with Environmental Design Group of Akron to provide construction administration and inspection services for the project.
Charles Shasho, the city’s deputy director of public works, refers to the structure as “the bridge to nowhere” because the 78-foot steel girder goes over an abandoned railroad line, just west of West Rayen Avenue.
The bridge has been in poor condition for years, he said.
The work will begin in June and is expected to be finished by October.
