The Anzac Fire Department is disputing claims its members could not respond to two accidents last month. The first incident took place on Jan. 20, one day after the municipality’s EMS dispatch system was taken over by a centralized provincial system. This new system is run by Alberta Health Services.
During that case, a tree had fallen on an elder, giving him an open double fracture on his lower leg. The volunteer firefighters were not sent to the accident, but they responded when someone called the Anzac Fire Department directly. The firefighters treated the man for hypothermia and stabilized his leg.
