we exchanged greetings. from that point forward it was, hey, i need to know good places to go for lunch or dinner, happy hour for bars and then even a couple weeks after that said i m looking for a job. do you know anybody hiring? and so we had those types of conversations. never anything political even though the tv was on in the lobby. other members sitting around conversing as well. they would express themselves, oh, that trump or congress needs to get its act together. he never responded other than sometimes he would just simply say, i agree or whatever. but he never was in a dialogue with anyone. his only communication direct communication was with me and i think he sort of befriended me or vice versa because i was somebody of stature and then one of the managers day shift at the y at the front desk always greeted us. i never noticed anything strange or odd about him.
how are you doing, we miss you, stuff like that. and i think about the fourth day he actually approached me and said so people call you the mayor. are you really the mayor? and i said, yes, i m the former mayor bill euille. a couple days later he asked me to recommend places for him to go for breakfast or lunch and i did so and he took me up on some of those referrals and then a week or so later, hey, i m new in the area, i m looking for a job. do you know anybody hiring. and i said, you know, as a mayor, former mayor, people come to me for all kinds of help and assistance and i said i don t know about any job openings at the moment. i said, what do you do? he said, construction. i said, i m in the construction but what s your skill set? he said, well, i m a home inspector. i said, well, certainly i ll
on edge. when i finish my workout, 45 minutes to an hour later, i would come up and grab a cup of coffee, sit down, and he would engage conversation, hate, mayor, how s it going. he asked me, he said, i am looking i am new here, where would you recommend me to go for breakfast or lunch? i identified some places in his initial response was, well, something within walking distance. that caused me to conclude he didn t have transportation. i said, go out to mount vernon avenue, lots of places there. i couple of days later, he said, hey, i m looking for a job, do you know anybody hiring? i said, what do you do? he said, construction. i said, i m in construction. what are your skills? i learned that he worked for housing builders and contractors. he said, i am a housing inspector. home inspector. i said, okay, let me see what i can find for you. i recommended he go to the city s website.
