D65 ‘Black Lives Matter’ curriculum questioned

“What Happens When a Slogan Becomes the Curriculum?” asks an article this week in The Atlantic. It questions whether Black Lives Matter teaching materials in Evanston/Skokie School District 65 cross “the line between education and indoctrination.”
But the District 65 Board of Education says the BLM Week curriculum is fair, important, and “vital in supporting our district mission of preparing students to contribute positively to a global and diverse society.”

But soon, every board and committee meeting in Evanston/Skokie School District 65 may open with a 506-word recitation of the wrongs inflicted upon Native Americans and enslaved people in the United States.
Termed a “Land Acknowledgement,” the statement, according to its authors at the district, serves to “recognize the enduring relationship between Indigenous Peoples and the land stolen from them.”

D65 Chief: Administration cuts are coming
Superintendent says they will be included in $1.9 million budget reduction which also trims other employees and rearranges bus schedule for savings.

The superintendent of Evanston/Skokie School District 65 says “there will be some administrative cuts” for the next school year.
Devon Horton told the Board of Education Monday night that he is not at liberty to disclose those cuts now, but he is “looking to do some reorganization” for the coming school year in the financially strapped district.
Finance Committee Chair Joey Hailpern had pointed out that cutting the administration was one of the more popular responses in a recent “thought exchange” with district residents.
