Vaccine-hesitant
Dharavi residents are being lured with freebies like a bar of soap, packaged juice and drinking water
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation is finding it hard to conduct its vaccination drive smoothly in some areas of the city. The response is particularly poor in
slums where the civic officials are offering freebies to people to cooperate with them in making the drive successful. At Dharavi, the
BMC is offering a soap, a Tetra Pak of juice and a water bottle to each of those coming forward for vaccination.
The G North assistant commissioner Kiran Dighavkar has set a target of vaccinating at least 1,000 slum dwellers a day, but despite offering the incentives, the centre is not able to complete its daily target.

Mumbai, Feb 21: After a year-long battle, a Bengaluru court on Saturday granted the custody of extradited gangster Ravi Pujari to Mumbai Police.
Milind Bharambe, joint commissioner (crime branch), Maharashtra said that Mumbai Police sought the custody of gangster Ravi Pujari, who is lodged in a Karanataka Jail, in connection with the 2016 Ghazali Hotel firing case. In the next few days, Pujari will be brought to Mumbai from Karnataka. There are around 49 serious offences registered in Mumbai against him apart from Navi Mumbai and Thane. We had been trying to get his custody for a year, and finally got success in the 2016 Ghazali Hotel firing case, said Bharambe.
In less than three months, number of violators caught without face masks in public places has increased three times. Till November 28, 2020 BMC collected a fine amount of Rs.10,07,81,600 from 4,85,737 violators. The fine amount upto Feb 19. has increased to Rs 31,79,43,400 crores that were collected from 15,71,679 lakh violators.
The violation which attracted Rs 1000 fine until September 12, was brought down to Rs 200 fine starting September 13. BMC has offered its staff incentive of 10 per cent of the total fine they collect each day. People seem to be taking masks very lightly. We have been appealing to the citizens to follow the covid 19 safety protocol. It has been noticed that on an average more than 500 people are caught from each ward everyday, which is not a good trend. Face mask is compulsory since the pandemic was on peak and even now, said Suresh Kakani, Additional Municipal Commissioner (Health).
