Eastern Province (EP) Governor Anuradha Yahampath today requested the public not to visit the Trincomalee District except for a matter of urgency.  She said the decision was taken following the district health sector had identified an alarming surge of COVID-19 spread. The Governor also urged the public to strictly restrict travelling during the upcoming holidays. The above decision was taken at the Provincial Committee meeting where the Governor and other officials gathered to take appropriate steps to prevent the rapid spreading of coronavirus.  Moreover, the Governor instructed the security forces to implement a special security plan in Trincomalee within the next two weeks and advised them to strictly enforce the law against anyone who violates the Quarantine Act.
