I miss the casual pre-COVID-19 scene at Antonioâs Bacaro â friendly, unpretentious, and always a sure bet to bring authentic northern Italian cuisine to the table. Owners Joe and Sonia Garufi have hung in there, along with their outstanding chef, Anthony Haley, so this Hyde Park gem, reasonably priced, remains a gourmet-level lifeline and my go-to place for a pasta fix to-go.

The Boston Globe launched Project Takeout, an initiative asking you to do your (delicious) civic duty: Get food to go that you can afford from a local, independent restaurant. Restaurants are in a fight for their lives due to the pandemic, but takeout doesnât just support these small businesses that are such an integral part of our cities and neighborhoods. It supports those they employ. Pre-pandemic, 1 in 10 Massachusetts jobs was located within the four walls of a restaurant. This sprawling neighborhood of Boston is often overlooked when it comes to dining out, in part because it is just so far from the downtown section of the city. Indeed, to get from Faneuil Hall to the Readville section of Hyde Park will take you a long time even without traffic, and parts of Hyde Park (including Readville) look a lot more like the suburbs than the city. But there are definitely some excellent options for food and drink here, and because it is miles away from the trendy bistros of the South End and the hotspots of the Seaport District, you’ll tend to find a lot of simple neighborhood eateries and some real under-the-radar spots.
