Installation to exercise emergency response systems

Redstone Arsenal personnel can expect some interruptions to the workday on Wednesday, Aug. 25. That’s because the Arsenal will be completing a full-scale exercise, a simulated emergency scenario designed to test and evaluate emergency response procedures. Tameline Black, a Garrison emergency management specialist and lead exercise planner, said this year’s simulation will be a severe weather event. Full-scale exercises occur every 18-24 months in accordance with the Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program and are designed with the installation’s most likely threats in mind. The installation’s response will be evaluated by representatives from Installation Management Command. The exercise will not only impact Redstone Arsenal tenants – Black said community stakeholders will also be involved, including Madison County EMA, Huntsville Utilities and HEMSI.

Drone dangers go beyond deployed areas > Wright-Patterson AFB > Article Display

A vigilance is needed on everyone’s part, including Wright-Patterson Air Force Base personnel. Combine warfighting ability to employ cost- and mission-effective drones in combat with the popularity of consumer drones in the United States, and it’s not hard to see how small unmanned aircraft systems could pose dangers in the U.S. Global drone sales are expected to reach $43 billion by 2024 while accelerating technological improvements to increase the range, lift capacity, speed and battery life of the small systems, according to a report published by the Association of the United States Army. Officials said these same types of drones are available both online and in stores nationwide and could be flown over the base to provide adversaries with information on daily operations at Wright-Patterson AFB and installation layout, or even drop materials if left unchecked.
