NOIDA/GREATER NOIDA: Following a state government order issued on May 7, which said the government will bear the cost for cremation of Covid patients, the Noida Authority has appointed two senior officials at Antim Niwas. They will oversee the process at the Sector 94 crematorium that has been handling 50-60 bodies almost every day for the past few weeks.
The Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) will also follow a similar model to handle the cremation process, officials said. The prominent crematorium for the city is at Shafipur. The order had said cremations would be conducted at the behest of the local urban or rural bodies and expenses of up to Rs 5,000 in each case would be handled by the local authority. Later, the amount would be reimbursed by the government.
