The Covid-19 Vaccine Registration Hotline established as part of the government’s education campaign to encourage to take the Covid-19 vaccine, registered 326 persons during the launch on Thursday.
The hotline operates Monday through Friday from 9 am to 3 pm, also received approximately 350 calls, a release said.
“The team assisted persons who do not have the capacity to register online, and aided individuals who opted to use the registration portal. The dedicated registration team also addressed general questions on the vaccination process,” the communique added.
Meanwhile, vaccination of frontline workers is well underway as healthcare workers, members of the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force, Immigration Officers, and frontline staff continue to be inoculated.
Union ‘surprised’ port matter was brought before the Industrial Court

The Industrial Court has been asked to resolve a dispute between employees and the management at the Antigua Port Authority.
On Monday, an emergency hearing was held at the court, after Attorney General Steadroy Benjamin filed memoranda, asking the court to make a judgement on whether port workers are entitled to take action over unpaid annual bonuses and advances.
In December 2020, the workers, through the ABWU, threatened to take industrial action if they were not paid the 3.5 percent annual bonus as outlined in their collective agreement.
Deputy Secretary General of the Antigua and Barbuda Workers Union (ABWU) Chester Hughes said that the union was prepared to take legal action if a resolution was not forthcoming.
Int’l union stands in solidarity with the ABWU
The Antigua Barbuda Workers Union (ABWU) has secured the support of its affiliate, the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) as it looks to continue talks with the management of the Antigua Port Authority over payment of a 3.5 percent bonus for workers that was previously agreed to in a collective agreement.
The ITF is a global trade union organisation with 650 affiliates from 150 countries representing almost 20 million transport workers. The organisation has written to both Prime Minister Gaston Browne and Attorney General Steadroy Benjamin.
ITF explained, in the two-page letter, that it was quite disappointed that the agreed productivity bonuses will not be paid to the workers in violation of the written and signed collective agreement between the union and the management of the port.
