In December 2021, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had directed the state governments to create dedicated ANTFs under their respective DGPs to fight the menace of drugs for a "drug-free India".
The Maharashtra government has established an Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) to combat the rising drug trade in the state. The task force will be headed by a Special Inspector General of Police and will take action against drug peddlers and smugglers, as well as work towards rehabilitating victims and spreading awareness about narcotics.
