top democrats say a democratic resolution condemning anti-semitism and other forms of hate will come for a vote following a messy battle over how to deal with the latest comments from minnesota s freshman congresswoman, comments where she suggested pro israel interests caused to pledge allegiance to a foreign country. some are calling the comments antisemitic and others saying she is being unfairly targeted. joining me now is ceo of anti-defamation league. house speaker nancy pelosi spoke to reporters earlier this hour. when asked about the remarks, nancy pelosi says that she doesn t believe that omar understood the full weight of her words and she is confident
west virginia. we have the ability to fight all forms of hate, but this is about anti-semitism. that is the issue at hand. that is what the house needs to address. if the resolution, as nancy pelosi has described it, because it s going to be more than just anti h anti-semitism. it s going to talk about all kinds of hate, white supremacy. is that a good thing? look, we think americans of all faiths, of all races, of all walks of life should stand up to any form of intolerance. but the issue at hand is the repeated invocation of anti-semitism. so you think this would miss the mark? i haven t read the text so it s hard to say. i don t know exactly how it calls out the anti-semitism. but i don t want to see this issue all lives matter. it is an indication of a slander
anti-semitism, anti-islamophobia. it leaves the democratic leadership in a safer position than when they were headed towards before what dpr was reported was a really tense meeting yesterday about this very issue because the intention initially was to condemn anti-semitism. you heard nancy pelosi talk about the fact that this is a growing problem again in europe. she heard it in europe and of course in this country, as well. and so that was the initial intention and it did, not by coincidence, let s just call it what it is. it is not a coincidence. it came up after this whole controversy with congresswoman omar sending out tweets and making other statements that were perceived as anti-semitism. i thought it was noteworthy that
anti-semitism in our kaencountr this is well before the statement that emerged this weekend. when it did it was important for me to speak to member first before we would proceed. she was in africa after i spoke to her members had different tacts they wanted to take. some were individual statements, some thinking we should have a resolution. i thought the resolution should be in large the issue to anti-semitism, anti-white spremest. and it should not mention her name. that s what we are working on, something that is one resolution addressing these forms of hatred not mentioning her name. it s not about her. it s about these forms of hatred. she hasn t apologized. does she need to apologize? it s up to her to explain. i do not believe that she understood the full weight of
