FBR confiscating ‘benami’ motor vehicles

KARACHI: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has started confiscating benami vehicles following an order passed by an appellate forum in favor of the tax authorities, sources said on Monday.
The sources said that the Karachi Benami Zone had filed references in 20 benami vehicles last year before the adjudicating authority. The benami adjudicating authority, the first appellate forum, recently passed an order in favour of the tax authorities giving them a go-ahead for confiscating the motor vehicles where beneficial owners were different from the purchasers of the motor vehicles.
The sources said following an order passed by the benami adjudicating authority the aggrieved persons had the opportunity to file an appeal before the appellate tribunal inland revenue. ISLAMABAD: The capital police have requested the interior ministry to increase the number of CCTV cameras and manpower for the Safe City Project.

Dawn, an official of the police on condition of anonymity said officials of the Islamabad Safe City Project had sought an additional 4,000 cameras in the city.
“The Safe City Project was approved a decade ago and since then the capital has expanded and its population increased sharply,” the official said, adding at present 1,905 cameras are installed on different roads, highways, important and sensitive installations and markets.
ISLAMABAD: The capital police have started the process to separate investigation and operations wings.
The police said they were reorganising the investigation wing into a specialised and dedicated workforce. In this regard, a standard order for reorganising the investigation wing was issued from the office of the inspector general of police (IGP) with the signature of Assistant Inspector General of Police (Establishment) Kamran Adil.
The wing will be primarily responsible for investigation of heinous cases.
The wing will work under the supervision of the deputy inspector general of police (DIG) operations. Senior superintendent of police (SSP) investigation will head the wing and will directly report to the DIG operations.

The Sindh High Court sought replies on Thursday from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) director-general, manager of Jinnah International Airport, federal law secretary and Sindh government on a plea pertaining to bills issued to a food franchise at the Karachi airport for water, electricity and gas consumption.
A two-member bench, headed by Justice Muhammad Junaid Ghaffar and comprising Justice Zulfiqar Ahmad Khan, was hearing the plea, which stated that the Dunkin Donuts franchise at the airport was sent a bill worth Rs4.4 million on account of water, electricity and gas consumption between February and August.
