another $8.5 billion in economic assistance. and then another $3 billion in humanitarian assistance. and in terms of what this money would actually translate to, a lot of it would be weapons and equipment that the ukrainians have said they so badly need more of, like artillery, armored vehicles, and anti-armor systems. and then we re also talking about food, money, and medicine, the sort of day-to-day necessity things that the ukrainian people need as they try to survive out this war. now, this is money that u.s. officials say should last the ukrainians around five months. just another stark reminder both this price tag as well as the five-month time frame, that u.s. officials are currently planning for this conflict to be a long-term conflict. mj lee, cnn, the white house. more than two months of fighting, thousands of lives lost, and no end in sight. that s where things stand in ukraine right now, not to mention the horrific devastation
and as the fight has evolved, you ve seen their needs change from a lot at the beginning a lot of anti-armor and anti-aircraft weaponry and again they have been very successful but as the fight in the south and east of the country continues, that s a different kind of terrain. they will need different kinds of things to be able to shape that fight a bit better. we re looking at long range artillery and tanks and armored vehicles and those types of things. bill: was there a change of mood in the types of weapons being donated from today s conference, the other allies who donated today? change of mood? from when this started do you feel people are willing to donate weapons that maybe they weren t willing to? take the germans, for instance. what we ve seen throughout is that people have been willing to help ukraine defend
exactly what president zelenskyy has been saying for more than two months now. but his argument is that the world is not coming in aggressively enough to protect that global stability. to that, you say what? victor, it s a good point that general milley made, and i think what you have seen over the last nine weeks since russia launched this unprovoked and unjustified war on ukraine, is that the world is doing more. so, originally, there was a focus on providing things like stinger anti-aircraft missiles and javelin anti-armor missiles because those were things that the ukrainian military could use very quickly without a lot of training. but now, as it looks like this war may drag on and take months, you now see the west providing things like armor. the united states providing heavy artillery so weapons that will allow the ukrainian military, with some training, and they ll now have to take the time to do that, but to do a better job of defending themselves and continue what the ukrai
