that the next press conference regarding the mass shooting in mass casualty event out in monterrey park, california, will take place 11 am eastern. msnbc will be covering it and i want to thank you for watching the katie phang show. we ll be back next weekend saturday and sunday and velshi starts right now. good morning, i m ali velshi. we are following breaking news right now out of california. law enforcement sources they re confirmed at least ten people are dead after a shooting in monterrey park just east of los angeles. ten others were injured and taken to an area hospital. it happened last night around 10:30 pm local time. li county sheriff s homicide captain andrew meyer described the scene at a press conference just a few hours ago. when officers arrived on scene, they observed numerous individuals with location pouring out of location. screaming and the officers made entry to the location and located additional victims. the monterey park fire department responded
dangerous rhetoric. we re talking, of course, about the elevation of some of the fringiest of the fringe members of the republican caucus, the seats on important congressional committees. when we say it is happening on today of all days, that s because today would have been the late congressman elijah cummings 72nd birthday. he passed away in 2019, the son of sharecroppers, he would go on to become a force of nature in congress, and ultimately the chairman of the powerful house oversight committee. when we re dancing with the angels, the question will be asked, in 2019, what did we do to make sure we kept our democracy in tact? did we stand on the sidelines and say nothing? there are efforts to stop people from voting. that s not right! this is not russia! this is the united states of america! and i will fight until the death to make sure every citizen, whether they re green party, whether they re freedom party, whether they re democrat, whether they re republican, whoever

midterms. and in georgia 1 million preelection ballots have been cast. let s bring in cnn s eva mckend live in a polling place in georgia. eva, what are you seeing? reporter: well, a common answer from voters when you ask them why they are turning out early is because they want to take advantage of the opportunity. they don t want work to maybe get in the way on election day. so they are exercising their right early. been record turnout daily since early voting began lasweek. secretary of state brad raffensperger says that this illustrates that georgia has among the best election systems in the country but this democratic opponent still says that voter suppression is alive and well in georgia staking issue with the state s voting law, take a listen. i would put our election system, i would put our georgia election system and our voters up against any other state in the union. we re seeing record turnout. and i anticipate we ll continue to see midterm records broken. j
