The school board has approved a contract to hire the coordinator to step up security efforts after a stabbing in Lindenhurst Middle School that left a 13-year-old critically injured.
The move comes after a 17-year-old girl smuggled a box cutter into the high school underneath a laptop in her backpack, eluding detection by scanning equipment.
The boy was stabbed by a 12-year-old student during an altercation early Monday afternoon, police said. School officials said Tuesday they believe it was "an isolated incident."
