Kansas moved to 8-6 on the season, while Omaha moved to 5-8.
Game 1 (Kansas 9, Omaha 0)
Kansas defeated Omaha in the first game of a doubleheader behind a brilliant complete-game shutout performance by Larsen on Saturday morning.
Larsen made his third start of the year and threw the first complete game shutout of the season. The righty struck out six batters and only allowed one extra base hit through nine innings of work.
The last Jayhawk to throw a complete-game shutout was Ryan Cyr, May 4, 2019 against Texas.
With Larsen on the mound, the KU offense got to work. The Jayhawks took a one-run lead in the top of the third after a double by James Cosentino and an error that allowed him to score.
OMAHA, Neb. – The Kansas Jayhawks (6-6, 0-0 Big 12) used pitching and a relentless offense to win the first game against the Omaha Mavericks (4-6, 0-0 Summit League), 7-3, but dropped the second game of the doubleheader, 9-7, on Friday afternoon at Tal Anderson Field.
Game 1 (Kansas 7, Omaha 3)
The Kansas Jayhawks took full offensive control in game one of the doubleheader against the Omaha Mavericks on Friday morning at Tal Anderson Field.
Seasoned veteran Ryan Cyr started on the bump for Kansas and earned his third win of the season while striking out seven. The three runs that the Mavericks got off of the righty were all unearned through the 6.2 innings he pitched.
ST. LOUIS – It took 12 innings, but the Kansas Jayhawks defeated the St. Louis Billikens 7-5 Sunday afternoon, earning the series win in the finale of the three-game set.
Kansas improved to 5-5 on the season with back-to-back wins over St. Louis, while the Billikens fell to 2-9.
Eli Davis started on the mound for Kansas at the Billken Sports Center and pitched through seven innings while striking out four. Gabirel Sotomayor made a brief appearance before Daniel Hegarty carried the Jayhawks into extra innings.
Kansas jumped on the board first after Maui Ahuna singled, Casey Burnham walked and Dylan Ditzenberger singled to load the bases with one out in the top of the third. A sacrifice fly by Anthony Tulimero drove in Ahuna to give the Jayhawks the lead.
A one-hit performance and an unstoppable St. Louis offense proved too much for the Kansas Jayhawks as they dropped the first game of the series, 8-1, on Friday night at Billiken Sports Center.
