Drivers adjusting to 5 new speed humps on this Staten Island road
Updated 10:52 AM;
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. Speeding motorists in Grymes Hill will either need to slow down or risk damaging their vehicle.
The Department of Transportation (DOT) recently installed five speed humps on Howard Avenue, from Hillcrest Road to Louis Street, in an effort to curb speeding on the narrow, winding roadway.
The new traffic-calming measures were implemented in response to residential complaints raised to the department regarding dangerous driving behavior observed in the area.
“Residents brought speeding in this area to our attention and this long, winding road covers three academic institutions. A review of speed counts backed up the decision to place the humps,” according to a DOT spokesperson.
