Experts divided over new security efforts on Nigerian waters

While some believe that the deployment of NIMASA’s $195m assets would have a devastating effect on the inland waters, others described it as a welcome development. The President of the Nigerian Institute of Shipping, Capt. Anthony Onoharigho, commended the security of the exclusive economic zone, but expressed grave concerns over the outcome “if commensurate effort is not made to secure the inland waters.”

Obaigbena, Amuka, Ibru Console Okowa over Father s Death

Omo-Julius Onabu in Asaba It was the turn of media leaders yesterday to commiserate with Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, over the death of his father, Sir Arthur Okowa, who died last week at 88. Led by Chairman, THISDAY/ARISE NEWS Group, Prince Nduka Obaigbena, they told Okowa to take heart even as they praised him for the strides he had made in the development of infrastructures in the state. Others on the condolence train are Publisher of VANGUARD Newspaper, Mr. Sam Amuka, and his THE GUARDIAN counterpart, Mrs. Maiden Ibru. Publisher, Lady Maiden Alex-Ibru Publisher of The Guardian, Mrs Maiden Ibru, has lauded Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta for visible infrastructural development in the state. Ibru made the commendation when she, alongside two other publishers, visited Okowa at the Government House Asaba on Thursday, to condole with him on the passing of Pa. Arthur Okowa on Jan. 28. The Guardian publisher was in company of two other newspaper publishers from Delta, Nduka Obaigbena -Thisday and Sam Amuka of Vanguard. She said she was impressed with the “massive infrastructural upgrade in Delta, especially in Asaba, the state capital”. According to her, Okowa’s success in his political career and his performance as governor is a reflection of his humble upbringing.
