NHRC calls for speedy adoption, Implementation of child Rights’ Act On By Tordue Salem, Abuja In commemoration of the 2021 World Children’s Day (WCD), the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), has urged governments at all levels, to adopt and enforce the rights of the child in all the 36 states of the federation. Executive Secretary of the Commission, Tony Ojukwu who made the call in Abuja while marking this year’s WCD, noted that children deserve special attention and protection in order for them to fruitfully pass through the various stages of survival and development. He said, “ it has become imperative for states who are yet to adopt the Child’s Rights Law to do so to avoid further violations of the rights of these vulnerable children”.

The Commission, through its Executive Secretary, Mr. Tony Ojukwu Esq, noted that the majority of journalists in Nigeria have severally lived up to their professional duties to unearth wrongdoings in the society, even at the risk of their lives and that of their family members. According to a statement that was made available to newsmen by the Deputy Director Public Affairs at the NHRC, Fatimah Mohammed, Ojukwu, described the theme of this year’s commemoration, ‘Information for Public Good’, as very apt.
