Sheriff s deputies awarded for saving fellow officer after machete attack in Newberry Springs

Two sheriff’s deputies who saved a fellow officer after he was attacked by a man with a machete in Newberry Springs were recently honored for their actions.
Deputies Patrick Guthaus and Walter Kazee received San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Lifesaving Awards, the department said Friday.
The attack that resulted in the department s recognition of the deputies occurred on the night of Aug. 10. Guthaus, Kazee and Barstow deputy Jay Ko responded to a call in the 41000 block of Dogwood Street in Newberry Springs.
