SPOKANE, Wash. A local man will serve 30 years in prison after murdering a young woman in North Spokane last February. Anthony Fuerte’s plea deal was accepted on Monday.
Makayla Young, 24, was found dead after being stabbed multiple times in the chest and was almost decapitated when police discovered her body at the Roadway Inn motel. Fuerte will be released from prison in his 50s after serving this sentence, but Young’s family says Makayla didn’t get the justice she deserved.
“Our family, friends, community… and I feel like 30 years is not justice,” said Michael Young, Makayla’s dad. “That decision was taken out of our hands.”

SPOKANE, Wash. Anthony Fuerte, the man who killed and nearly decapitated a young woman at a Spokane motel, was sentenced to 30 years in prison on Monday.
Earlier this year, Fuerte pleaded guilty to killing 24-year-old Makayla Young at the Rodeway Inn in March 2020.
Young was found covered in blood by a housekeeper and authorities said Fuerte had made a “significant attempt” to remove her head. The housekeeper told police she saw Fuerte and another man put bloody towels outside of their room.
In court, Fuerte’s attorney said he takes fully responsibility for his actions, but added that Fuerte had drug addiction and a ‘stack of cards’ against him, playing a role in the tragedy.
