Republicans cut off Slate Belt elected official over support for Democrat in Tuesday’s primary

Slate Belt Republicans are cutting ties with an elected official, in a political battle surrounding a controversial plan for a 725-acre industrial park.
The Slate Belt Republican Association announced Thursday its members voted unanimously Tuesday to remove as a member in good standing Upper Mount Bethel Township Supervisor John Bermingham.
The association also wants the Northampton County Republican Committee and Republican Party of Pennsylvania to call for Bermingham’s resignation as a county Republican committeeman for Upper Mount Bethel’s Williamsburg voting district.
