To be a teen is to wear the costume of a superhero, feelings of vulnerability commingled with feelings of invincibility and the unspoken belief that though parents and grandparents may die, youth will live forever. So when death hovers in stories like John Green’s “The Fault in Our Stars,” love, grief, fear, joy, life are amplified because in the end, this too shall pass.
