Melbourne nonprofit complex to house Brevard homeless students, their families

Edwards served as master of ceremonies during Tuesday s groundbreaking ceremony for Saint Stephen s Way. Crews will construct a gated complex of 40 three-bedroom apartments along the southern shoreline of Crane Creek, off Lipscomb Street and Brothers Avenue. Founded in 2016, Saint Stephen s Way is a Melbourne nonprofit dedicated to providing affordable housing for homeless families with children who attend school in Brevard. The National Low Income Housing Coalition reports that Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford has the seventh-most-severe shortage of affordable rental homes for extremely low-income renters among America s 50 largest metropolitan areas. That NLIHC report was released in March 2020  at the dawn of the COVID-19 pandemic.
