Pan-Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere in the United Kingdom and Europe otherwise known as UK Afenifere, has condemned the recent hike in electricity tariff by the Nigerian Government. The group in a statement on Wednesday signed by its Secretary, Engr. Anthony Ajayi, noted that citizens and businesses in the country are still struggling for survival. It added that the time is for encouragement and not for plunging Nigeria into another crisis as citizens have yet to recover from the dollar crisis.
The UK Afenifere has urged the government at all levels within Southwest Nigeria to take proactive measures to advance internal security and curb the activities of illegal miners towards the protection of lives and property. The appeal followed the explosion which occurred on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, in the Bodija area of Ibadan, Oyo State, where no fewer than five people were killed and close to 80 others injured. Also, properties worth billions of naira were destroyed.

The Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has said the zoning system in the country cannot guarantee the prosperity of Nigeria, noting that there is therefore need for urgent structuring. The secretary of the group in the United Kingdom and Europe, Anthony Ajayi, who spoke in an interview with Daily Trust, said the group observed that zoning system in the country could not guarantee the prosperity of Nigeria.
