Social media posts shared in South Korea claim the United Nations accepted the country's "territorial claims" over part of Antarctica. However, South Korea's foreign ministry told AFP it has never issued territorial claims over the continent. The 1959 Antarctic Treaty, to which South Korea is a signatory, forbids the assertion of new territorial claims.
