BERLIN, Germany Germany on Wednesday banned a purported aid organization, Ansaar International, accusing it of collecting donations to help finance terrorism worldwide.
The prohibition came along with a series of raids on properties in ten states, with investigators also seizing items.
Interior Minister Horst Seehofer “has banned the association Ansaar International and its related organizations. The network finances terrorism worldwide with donations,” tweeted ministry spokesman Steve Alter.

BERLIN (AP) The German government on Wednesday banned a Muslim organization that it accused of supporting “terrorism globally with its donations.”
Police raided buildings associated with Ansaar International in 10 German states, the German Interior Ministry said in a statement. The ministry alleged the money the organization collected ostensibly went into welfare projects as a ruse to help finance groups such as the Syrian al-Qaida affiliate known as the Nusra Front, the Palestinian group Hamas and al-Shabab in Somalia.
“The organization Ansaar International and its suborganizations were banned. The network finances terrorism globally with its donations,” an Interior Ministry spokesperson tweeted.

Germany s Interior Minister has outlawed a Dusseldorf-based Islamist group for allegedly giving cash donations to designated terror groups overseas.
In a tweet on Wednesday, ministry spokesman Steve Alter said Ansaar International and its subsidiary organisations were banned for financing terrorism worldwide with donations .
He quoted Interior Minister Horst Seehofer as saying: If you want to fight terror, you have to dry up its sources of money.
Police raided offices in 10 different states as part of the move on Wednesday morning. About half of the 90 people affected were based in NRW, the state Dusseldorf is in.
Founded by the German rapper and Muslim convert Joel Kayser, Ansaar states on its website that it is an aid organisation with a focus on Syria, Somalia, Palestinian Territories and Afghanistan.
