Vancouver property management company Plan A Real Estate Services acted in bad faith when it tried to evict a tenant to make space for a live-in building caretaker, B.C.’s Residential Tenancy Branch has found.
A tenants rights lawyer is asking the B.C. government to strengthen eviction laws to address what he calls an emerging trend of "shotgun evictions," where multiple tenants in a building are told they face possible eviction so a caretaker can move in.
Vancouver's Plan A Real Estate Services has been fined $10,000 by the Residential Tenancy Branch for requiring tenants to sign lease agreements that it falsely claims aren't covered by B.C.'s tenancy laws.
