The Tonkawa Tribe of Oklahoma held their 48th Annual Powwow, with the theme being “Year of the Woman,” this past weekend in remembrance of the 138th anniversary of the arrival of the Tonkawa at Fort Oakland. The Tonkawa Tribe uses this event as a reminder of what their ancestors were forced to endure during the trail of tears and their arrival to Fort Oakland.
