For the 14th year, Newport Life asked you to share your photographic impressions of Newport County, and more than 150 of you responded, flooding our inbox with hundreds of images.
If this year’s Photo Contest had a theme song, it would be
Sunrise, Sunset. Parti-colored skies streaked with clouds often reflected off water dominated the submissions, overshadowing every other subject. In a nod to social distancing, perhaps, only a handful of photos depicted human subjects, and only one entry addressed the pandemic head-on, earning a spot on the pages that follow.
Also earning a spot was our first Reader’s Choice winner, a silkily serene closeup of waves by Kimberley Lexner. The image also earned praise from this year’s guest judge, Norah Diedrich, executive director of the Newport Art Museum and a fine art photographer herself, who graciously lent her discerning eye and insightful observations to the selection process.
