The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Minna Operation Office, has alerted Kwara residents of an impending flood this year. The agency advised village and district heads as well as religious leaders, especially those at community levels, to begin the preparations in order to mitigate the effect of the flood. The heavens will release the rains in deluge this year, posing danger to homes, roads and bridges. Worse still, air travellers may be in danger. Reason: Severity of the weather and “lack of preparedness by relevant agencies.” The warning was given by a technical committee of experts set up by the Federal Government.
No fewer than 314 out of the 774 Local Governments Areas (LGAs) have been warned by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to be ready to face high risk flooding in 2023. They should be particularly prepare for the months of April, June, July, September, October and November.
