The Michigan Wolverines sealed the deal last week with former Kentucky defensive backs coach Steve Clinkscale as a last-minute replacement for Maurice Linguist. Now, we know what it took for head coach Jim Harbaugh and the program to make the hire happen.
Clinkscale signed a three-year contract with Michigan that will pay him at least $600,000 per year, according to the findings from a FOIA request by MLive. A pay bump and title change could also come for him if this year’s pass defense ranks in the top 25 in the country. That would raise his salary to $700,000 and earn him the co-defensive coordinator title that Linguist carried before leaving for Buffalo.
