It sounds like an odd pairing – Smartfood and Krispy Kreme doughnuts.
But, according to Smartfood’s website, the brand hit grocery shelves in 1985 “with a very smart idea: to create great tasting, ready-to-eat popcorn with quality ingredients.”
And as far as Krispy Kreme’s nutritional aspects, its Original Glazed has 190 calories, 50 calories less than another national brand and 185 milligrams less sodium. (Although a Krispy Kreme Original Glazed is a bit smaller.)
When Smartfood creators Andrew Martin and Annie Withey started making their cheese popcorn, they used real cheese, not like the cheese popcorn that was already on the market that seemed to glow in the dark.
Sales at Annie s Homegrown are hopping.
The company, an organic food brand owned by General Mills, is known for its macaroni and cheese and bunny-rabbit brand icon based on the founder s pet rabbit.
A pioneer in the processed organic food sector, Annie s represents a market that is rapidly expanding with unfolding opportunities for farmers producing dairy, wheat, eggs and meat.
The company was co-founded by Annie Withey and Andrew Martin in 1989. When Withey started, she sold boxes of homemade mac and cheese from her car trunk. Annie started really scrappy, but with a very big vision, said Christina Skonberg, sustainability lead for General Mills natural and organic sector.
